God is not speaking to Saul, and so in his desperation he adds more evil to his rebellion and seeks the help of a medium. Now that Saul finds himself in a situation beyond his control, he reaches out for God only to find that he has distanced himself too far from the Lord. Saul has consistently chosen rebellion against God and has ignored GodвЂ™s many gracious attempts at giving him direction. When we attempt to connect with or control the spiritual realm in an extra-biblical way, or an unbiblical way we dabble in occultist practices and open the door to demonicвЂ¦no matter how вЂњinnocentвЂќ or вЂњhelpfulвЂќ it may seem. Though the spiritual is nearly always unseen, that does not make it any less real. There is a spiritual realm that is just as real as the physical world around us. Will you believe in JesusвЂ™s sacrifice for you? Will you submit to Him as your king? Or will you try to hold on to your autonomy and reject Jesus as King? To this day wise men are still seeking Jesus, worshippers are still giving Him gifts and wicked men are still grasping for their own power. So too, the rebellious heart of humanity naturally rejects King Jesus, but by the supernatural grace of God we can yield to King Jesus. In Matthew 2, Herod is willing to murder the children of an entire area in an attempt to hold on to his power and authority.

When you recognize that Jesus takes your place and pays your debt because of your sin, His great love overwhelms you and He conquers your heart by transforming you from an enemy to His friend. Christmas celebrates the first coming of King Jesus, who comes as the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world and conquer the hearts of His people. When you recognize Jesus as King, He is in His right place and you are in yours. Jesus is the newborn King who we celebrate at Christmas.
